Permissions and Reprints

Every paper, course and checklist the Journal publishes ends with two restrictions: no portion may be copied, shared, or distributed without written authorization, and no part may be submitted to a publicly accessible artificial-intelligence system. This page explains in plain terms what those restrictions mean in practice, what you may do without asking, and how to ask for everything else. The binding terms are in the Terms of Use; where this page and the Terms differ, the Terms govern.

What you may do without asking

Anyone, subscriber or not, may:

•        Link to any page on ioinsight.net, including the summary page of any paper, and share those links freely.

•        Quote brief passages from the research, with attribution, in the ordinary course of professional work: an internal memo, a presentation, a comment letter to a regulator, an article, or a social media post.

•        Refer to a paper's findings in your own words, with attribution.

A brief passage means a sentence or a short paragraph, not a section, a figure, or a table. Attribution names the Journal and the paper, in this form:

Investment Operations Insight LLC, "Paper Title," The Journal of Securities & Investment Operations, Month Day, Year.

What your subscription covers

An individual subscription belongs to one named person. You may download the PDF editions, keep them, print them, and use them in your own work. You may not forward a PDF to a colleague, post it on a shared drive, or give anyone your login. If colleagues want to read the research, an Enterprise subscription covers them.

An Enterprise subscription extends those rights to the licensed group named in the order form. Members of the group may circulate the PDF editions among themselves, store them on the firm's access-controlled systems, and reproduce figures and tables in internal material with the Journal credited. None of that extends outside the group.

What needs written permission

The following require permission in writing, which the Journal grants readily for most professional uses:

•        Reproducing a figure or table outside your firm, for example in a conference presentation, a client deliverable, a consultation response, or a published article.

•        Including an excerpt longer than a brief passage in any document that leaves your firm.

•        Distributing a paper to clients, counterparties, members of an association, or event attendees.

•        Any use in marketing, sales, or promotional material, including by a firm or product the paper mentions.

•        Translation, adaptation, or summarization for publication.

•        Posting a paper, or a substantial part of one, anywhere publicly accessible.

In general, we do not charge for this permission, but reserve the right to allow or disallow said permission in order to control distribution and presentation of copyrighted material.

Reprints and licensed excerpts

Firms that want to share a paper outside their own walls can license a reprint: an authorized copy of the paper, in full or in part, for a stated audience and period. Reprints are common where a paper discusses a firm's service or an infrastructure's program, or where an association wants to circulate a paper to its members.

A reprint carries the Journal's name and the paper's date and text unchanged. The Journal does not rewrite, abridge for emphasis, or add endorsements to a paper for a reprint, and a reprint license does not imply that the Journal endorses the licensee. A firm licensing a paper that discusses it receives the paper as published. Reprint fees depend on audience size and term and are quoted on request.

Media

Journalists may quote the research with attribution without asking. For interviews, comment, or permission to reproduce a figure in an article, write to pr@ioinsight.net.

Teaching and academic use

Instructors at universities and industry training programs who want to use a paper in a course should write to research@ioinsight.net. Classroom use is often granted at no charge for accredited programs.

Artificial-intelligence systems

The research may not be submitted, uploaded, disclosed, or otherwise made available to any publicly accessible artificial-intelligence system, including large language models and comparable services, where the material could be used for training, retained by the system, disclosed to third parties, or made accessible to other users. Nor may it be used to train, fine-tune, or evaluate any machine-learning model without a written license.

The reason is simple. The research is the product. A paper pasted into a public chatbot has been redistributed to the provider, and possibly to every future user of the model, whether or not anyone intended that.

In practice:

•        Not permitted: pasting or uploading research into a consumer or free-tier AI service, a public chatbot, or any tool whose terms allow the provider to train on or retain what you submit.

•        Not permitted: building a dataset, index, or retrieval system from the research for use outside your licensed group, or using it to train or evaluate a model.

•        Permitted for subscribers: using an AI tool that runs inside your firm's own controlled environment, under contract terms that prohibit the provider from training on, retaining, or disclosing what you submit, and that makes the material available only to people covered by your subscription. Enterprise subscribers may add the research to an internal knowledge system on the same conditions.

If you are unsure whether a tool meets these conditions, ask before using it: sales@ioinsight.net.

How to request permission

Write to research@ioinsight.net for editorial and academic uses, pr@ioinsight.net for media, and sales@ioinsight.net for reprints and commercial licenses. Include:

•        The paper title and date, and the passage, figure, or table concerned.

•        How it will be used, the audience, and roughly how many people will see it.

•        The format and the period of use.
